About The Position

The Centralus Registered Nurse on Maternal Child Health is responsible for the provision of direct patient care to a designated group of patients within the Maternal Child Health department at Arnot Ogden Medical Center and Cayuga Medical Center. This position will work collaboratively with Unit leadership to follow the scope of practice for nursing governing bodies that apply to Maternal Child Health (AWONN, ACOG, NNA, AORN). These responsibilities will include the observation data collection, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient's physical, psychological, emotional educational and spiritual needs. Effectively provides Person Centered care and services

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associates of Applied Science in Nursing.
  • Will obtain BLS during introductory period BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 6 months of hire.
  • Is a full-time or part-time RN that is employed in the Centralus Health System.
  • Experience in at least one area of Maternal Child Health required (L&D, OB/postpartum, NICU, or Pediatrics)
  • Current NYS RN license.
  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g. use of the computer keyboard) light lifting in regards to patient care.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time as it pertains to patient care.
  • Must be physically able to operate the equipment used for the job.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients and families, whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex and quickly recognizes normal parameters, deviations and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental and behavioral status based on past clinical experience. Use a person-centered care approach in the development of care plans and in prioritizing nursing care to meet patient and family needs.
  • Plans for care of patients, demonstrating the ability to effectively prioritize both expected and unanticipated needs. Involves patients and families in establishing care goals
  • Demonstrates competence in the implementation of the technical skills required for the care of patients and families. Demonstrates initiative in remaining current on policies, procedures and standards. Acts as a resource to peers.
  • Interventions for the attainment of care goals reflect resourceful involvement of health team members. Facilitates the linking of patients and families with other disciplines and services as needed.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of care giving, and shows on going follow through in care delivery. Evaluation of care is reflective of the attainment of care goals. Demonstrates proficiency and compliance with established practices in clinical documentation.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills by making appropriate clinical decisions, prioritizing both planned and unplanned events, and proactively addressing potential and actual problems.
  • Demonstrates awareness of the value and relevance of research and evidence based practice in nursing. Practice can be identified as research based.
  • Is self-directed in assuming responsibilities within the team and care delivery system.
  • Assists peers and team members in acquiring department specific knowledge, skills and behaviors.
  • Is recognized as a department resource for clinical practice and operational systems
  • Assists others and provides leadership in implementing the standards of the patient care.
  • Maintains knowledge base in 1 or more of the specialty areas within Maternal Child Health (Pediatrics, OB/Postpartum, Labor& Delivery, NICU)
  • Completes all assigned education modules, orientation, classes, and competencies required for area(s) of expertise (at both CMC and Arnot Ogden Medical Center).
