About the position

The Central Access Representative position plays a key role in the health system interacting with patients, providers, payers and counterparts involved in each patient's care. This role ensures accuracy in all required demographic, financial, referral/authorization, clinical, and other registration data is accurately scheduled, collected, verified, and communicated as a core competency. The representative supports departmental policies, practices, and initiatives in support of patient experience, throughput, safety standards, and revenue cycle outcomes. Functions include scheduling of hospital and physician services for all RWJBH sites, pre-registration/registration, pre-admission/admission, insurance verification, referral coordination, pre-certification, screening for financial counseling, eligibility determination, and pre-service estimate communication and collection of any required copays, deductibles, or co-insurances. The role also involves collaborating, communicating, and coordinating to create a positive experience through the entire patient access and revenue cycle flow, as well as supporting peer leadership to meet department goals including training delivery, assignment support, escalation, and troubleshooting to support operations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures accuracy in all required demographic, financial, referral/authorization, clinical, and other registration data.
  • Supports departmental policies, practices, and initiatives in support of patient experience, throughput, safety standards, and revenue cycle outcomes.
  • Schedules hospital and physician services for all RWJBH sites.
  • Handles pre-registration/registration, pre-admission/admission, insurance verification, referral coordination, pre-certification, and screening for financial counseling.
  • Determines eligibility and communicates pre-service estimates, collecting any required copays, deductibles, or co-insurances.
  • Collaborates and communicates to create a positive experience through the patient access and revenue cycle flow.
  • Supports peer leadership to meet department goals including training delivery and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent with emphasis on computer literacy and communication skills.
  • Customer service experience required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, hospital financial systems, and insurance processes.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in patient access.
  • Proficient in multiple functions within patient access and revenue cycle.
  • Successful completion of all training orientation programs required.
