Position Summary The Team Leader in the Centralized Underwriting Department is responsible for overseeing a team of underwriters to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant decisions on loan applications. This role combines leadership, operational oversight, and strategic execution to drive performance and maintain high standards of quality and service.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years underwriting experience.
  • Requires PC proficiency in Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • High School diploma
  • Must pass pre-employment screenings
  • Detailed oriented and driven to produce results.
  • Able to prioritize work, manage queues, and support SLA adherence.
  • Strong communication and coaching skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Critical thinking and being able to make decisions within assigned authority
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude and reliable.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Business, Finance or Mathematics or equivalent experience
  • Proven record and extensive background in consumer finance industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of underwriters, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.
  • Ensure loan applications are processed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner based on the Service Level Agreement to field operations.
  • Consistently meet personal production goals for underwriting decisions, ensuring timely and accurate review of applications alongside team leadership responsibilities.
  • Handle escalated and complex loan applications with professionalism and efficiency
  • Track team performance metrics, and implement strategies to improve productivity
  • Work closely with branch personnel and leadership in the Field and Home Office by providing exceptional customer service.
  • Conduct onboarding and ongoing training sessions with the underwriters to enhance team skills and ensure consistency in underwriting practices.
  • Create and manage monthly work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and balanced workloads.
  • Communicate regularly with leadership regarding team performance, challenges, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture.
  • Other assignments as directed by management.
