Under the supervision of a registered professional nurse the Central Sterile technician participates as a member of the Perioperative nursing team. The Central Sterile Technician performs tasks that support clinical operations. The primary focus of this position is receiving sorting inventory, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical items. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires. INTEGRIS Health is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
Requirements
- Requires one-year certificate from college or technical school or one year of related experience and or training.
Responsibilities
- Receives, sorts, inventories, decontaminates cleans, inspects, and sterilizes surgical items.
- Loads and operates washer-decontaminators, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers.
- Dates, stores and rotates sterile and non-sterile items. Inspects for outdated items.
- Uses and evaluates sterilizer test indicators.
- Inventories and maintains prescribed levels of sterile items for the operating room, Emergency Room and other clinical areas that require sterile instruments.
- Reports defective material or equipment and takes appropriate action to repair or replace items.
