JOB SUMMARY Perform a wide range of duties to facilitate the operation Central Sterile and Surgery Department including assembling and sterilizing instruments/trays, peel packing extra procedural instruments, operation of sterilizing equipment and case cart module preparation. Perform scheduled pick-ups of all Instrument trays and patient care equipment, cleans, inspects, assembles, and sanitizes all soiled instruments. Cleans and decontaminates all case carts and patient equipment, including all stretchers and wheel chairs. This position requires certification as a Central Sterile Tech. Qualifications JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School graduate or equivalent preferred. Or completion of a Central Sterile Program Licensure: Central Sterile Certification required Experience: One year experience as a Central Sterile Tech or completion of a Central Sterile Program preferred. Knowledge of surgical instruments preferred. On-the-job training available. Skills: Good communication skills. Must be able to accept direction from various personnel. Must be able to read/write in English. Must have excellent vision as well as good eye/hand coordination. PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed indoors in a controlled environment requiring adherence to strict dress codes to include scrub suits, head and shoe covers. Working conditions include limited exposure to sterilant gases and other chemical agents used in the sterilization process and blood/borne pathogens. Must be able to work a rotating schedule that includes alternating weekends, and provide some 2nd shift coverage as determined by the Central Sterile supervisor. Work is generally light with some moderate lifting required. Satisfactory job performance requires much standing/walking, pushing of carts, stooping and bending.
