About The Position

UPMC Mercy is expanding, and we’re looking for detail-oriented professionals to join our Sterile Processing team during a pivotal time of growth. Whether you're interested in our evening shift (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM) or night shift (10:30 PM – 7:00 AM), this is your chance to step into a hands-on role that directly supports surgical excellence and patient care. As a Sterile Processing Associate, you’ll be responsible for cleaning, assembling, and sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment. You’ll support major initiatives like our OR upgrade and Pavilion relocation, helping ensure safe, efficient operations across the hospital. Why UPMC Mercy? Requirements

  • Prior healthcare experience is required
  • Solid attendance and professionalism
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent with no experience -OR- Currently enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing Program Preferred -OR-1 year of experience within UPMC
  • Must be able to stand for all shift hours and be able to pick up, push, pull etc. 35 pounds.
  • Employees active in a Central Sterile position, on or before the effective date 12/27/2020, at a healthcare facility, are grandfathered regarding certification and will not need to obtain it unless they move into a different position that would require certification.
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician with Healthcare Sterile Processing Association.

  • Certification is a plus, but not required
  • We strongly prefer applicants with prior healthcare experience.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate and sterilize instruments using manual and mechanical methods
  • Assemble surgical trays and case carts per established protocols
  • Monitor and document sterilization parameters
  • Maintain and troubleshoot sterilization equipment
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively
  • Participate in performance improvement and ongoing education
