The Central Service Technician performs a variety of duties in the areas of decontamination, preparation and packaging of instruments for sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical/surgical supplies and equipment. This role includes participating in the collection, cleaning, and decontamination of used equipment and instruments from patient care areas. The technician assembles and tests instruments and equipment for proper working condition, prepares packs for sterilization, and restocks carts and supply kits such as Crash Cart, Isolation Cart, Urological Cart, Latex Free Supply Box, and General Spill Kit. Additionally, the technician operates and monitors gravity pressure, pre-vacuum, and ETO sterilizers, performs, monitors, and interprets routine sterilizer and washer/sterilizer efficacy testing, and processes charges for supplies and equipment issued from Central Services.
