About The Position

Central Service Technician II JOB SUMMARY The Central Service Technician I is responsible for phases of the supply process, collection and distribution functions, for services to various departments. This individual has a responsibility of contributing to the quality of patient care through strict quality assurance and efficient practices of decontaminating surgical equipment and instruments through proper cleaning, inspecting, maintaining, assembling, packaging and monitoring sterilization of instruments and supplies. JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation. Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred/Optional: Currently enrolled in/attending/completed an accredited HSPA or CBSPD sterile processing technician program. EXPERIENCE Minimum Required: None Preferred/Optional: Central sterile experience. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position. Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire and one of the following within two years of hire: Central Service Technician certification awarded by Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Military equivalency Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA and one of the following at time of hire: Central Service Technician certification awarded Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Military equivalency Central Service Technician I employees employed by MCHS in a Central Service Technician role as of March 10, 2019 are not required to obtain a central service technician certification, but must acquire annual continuing education credits equal to the requirements to maintain such a certification. Individuals hired into a Central Service Technician I role after March 10, 2019, must meet the above certification requirements. Any Central Service Technician joining MCHS through acquisition is not required to be certified, but must acquire annual continuing education credits equal to the requirements to maintain such a certification. Central Service Technician II JOB SUMMARY The Central Service Technician (CST) II is responsible for receiving, cleaning, decontaminating, assembling and disinfecting and/or sterilizing reusable medical and surgical devices for safe and effective patient care for various hospital and clinic departments. The CST II must process and distribute instruments, patient care equipment and other medical devices in an accurate, timely and dependable manner to enhance the quality of patient care. The CST II is knowledgeable and adheres to regulations, standards and recommended practices for the Sterile Processing department. The Central Service Technician II serves as a Sterile Processing subject matter resource, assisting with training and education, quality and infection control and process and product maintenance, tracking, recording, and improvements. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
