About The Position

The Central Service / Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role supports safe surgical and clinical operations by ensuring compliance with infection control standards and regulatory guidelines.

Requirements

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic computer proficiency
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Completion of a Medical Terminology course OR successful passage of a Medical Terminology challenge exam
• Must meet one of the following:
• Completion of Anatomy & Physiology course (high school level or higher)
• Successful passage of Anatomy exam
• SPD Technician Certification
• Three (3) years of recent SPD experience within the last five (5) years
• Must successfully pass the SPD Technician Certification exam
• Knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control, and surgical instrumentation
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

• Perform decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and trays
• Operate and monitor sterilization equipment according to established policies and procedures
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and distribution of sterile supplies
• Maintain accurate documentation of sterilization processes and quality checks
• Follow infection control, safety, and regulatory standards at all times
• Communicate effectively with operating room staff and clinical departments
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Perform additional duties as assigned based on department needs
