About The Position

"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking a skilled Sterile Processing Technician to support surgical services by ensuring the proper decontamination, preparation, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role is critical in maintaining infection control standards, safety regulations, and departmental policies while delivering high-quality service to internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Sterile Processing Aide
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Completion of a Medical Terminology course or successful passage of a Medical Terminology challenge exam.
  • Must meet one of the following:
  • Completion of an Anatomy & Physiology course (high school level or higher)
  • Successful passage of an Anatomy exam
  • SPD Technician Certification
  • Three (3) years of recent SPD experience (within the past five years)
  • Must successfully pass the SPD Technician Certification exam.
  • Sterile Processing Technician I
  • Meets all Aide qualifications, plus:
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as an SPD Aide
  • SPD Technician Certification
  • Sterile Processing Technician II
  • Meets all Technician I qualifications, plus:
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as an SPD Technician
  • Surgical Instrument Processor Certification
  • Sterile Processing Technician III
  • Meets all Technician II qualifications, plus:
  • Surgical Instrument Processor Certification and/or Ambulatory Surgery Technician Certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform decontamination, cleaning, disassembly, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and storage of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Utilize appropriate chemicals, methods, and PPE in accordance with infection control and safety guidelines.
  • Assemble instrument trays using count sheets and physician preference cards.
  • Wrap, label, peel-pack, and containerize instruments and trays correctly.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and completeness prior to sterilization.
  • Select appropriate sterilization methods and operate SPD equipment, including steam, ETO, Sterrad, Steris I sterilizers, washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, cart washers, heat sealers, and testing devices.
  • Monitor, document, and verify sterilization loads, including biological testing.
  • Maintain proper handling, storage, and distribution of sterile supplies and equipment.
  • Support inventory management by ordering, receiving, stocking, and monitoring usage of supplies.
  • Communicate inventory or supply issues promptly to appropriate personnel.
  • Provide timely retrieval and distribution of surgical supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource to internal customers regarding SPD processes.
  • Participate in training, staff meetings, and in-service education as required.
  • Perform duties independently with minimal supervision and support on-call coverage when needed.
  • Consistently demonstrate professionalism and service excellence.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
