About The Position

Horizon Health is a Critical Access, Rural Health Facility comprised of 25-inpatient beds located in Paris, IL & a multitude of outpatient clinic settings including Family Practice and Specialty Clinics in Paris and surrounding cities. We have been serving residents of Edgar County since 1968 though community education, emergency services, and outpatient care. Position Summary: The Central Scheduler oversees the processes in the Central Scheduling department as well as facilitates training of new staff. Available to troubleshoot issues and help others in this department as well as brainstorm new ideas for improvement and department development.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • 5 years of clinical experience preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and medical office/hospital procedures
  • Keen clerical and computer skills
  • Ability to deal tactfully with staff, patients and visitors
  • Excellent Customer Service

Responsibilities

  • Organizes daily work load to maintain efficient flow of department activity: taking physician orders, scheduling, screening of patient's pre-authorizations, patient education, and inbound/outbound patient referrals.
  • Maintains department scheduling needs; shows cooperative attitude when a change is needed within the department.
  • Regularly demonstrates the ability to coordinate a series of requests with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Demonstrates the flexibility to adjust schedule in response to "STAT' orders and fluctuations in patient load.
  • Knows proper sequence of exams for patient and physician convenience with the ability to train and answer question by staff when needed.
  • Organizes and demonstrates the ability to schedule and give instructions for preparation of exams for patients of all ages and in all aspects of all ancillary exams (i.e. CT, US, NM, SLEEP).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of filing and order entry with few errors.
  • Demonstrates good telephone etiquette and responds quickly to incoming calls.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prepare the statistics (daily and monthly).
  • Demonstrates the ability to order supplies and inventory for the office area.
  • Demonstrates at all times in dealing with the public a positive image of our department/hospital as a compassionate organization.
  • Works with a positive attitude with all staff to make an easy workflow process.
  • Provides direction and/or assistance to staff, patients, families, and visitors in a courteous and positive manner.
  • Interacts with all ancillary departments, physicians, and nurses in a positive manner.
  • Provides general support to all staff in areas that fall within the range of training and capabilities.
  • Communicates with a positive attitude to utilize clear and concise information that is exchanged between departments.
  • Innovative; looking for ways to improve the department.
  • Shows excellence and leads by example.
  • Accurately estimates the patient's procedures and attempts to collect past and present balances up front.
