About the position

The Central Scheduler at Genesis HealthCare System is responsible for scheduling and preparing patients for radiology and other tests, ensuring that all necessary information is collected and verified prior to the procedures. This role involves effective communication with patients, provider offices, and various hospital departments to facilitate smooth operations within the Patient Access Center.

Responsibilities

  • Fields scheduling related calls and appropriately schedules patients according to schedule availability.
  • Collects and compiles all pertinent patient information and ensures needed information is available on the day of exam.
  • Verifies that patients have a provider order before tests are performed or at time of scheduling.
  • Schedules appointments utilizing decision trees and following EPIC arrival and prep instructions.
  • May perform pre-registration functions on select patients by obtaining and entering information from the patient.
  • Serves as a liaison between the imaging department and provider offices, patients, and other hospital departments as needed.
  • Forwards essential patient information to appropriate personnel and departments.
  • Analyzes and reprioritizes schedules and appointments based on changing circumstances as needed.
  • Prepares reports to document utilization of the department's services and patient flow.
  • Receives cross training as necessary to provide relief support to other staff.
  • Maintains knowledge of appropriate systems: OnBase, Pathway2Care, EPIC Wait list, Web voicemails, RightFax, IVR, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent interpersonal, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in speech and writing and display excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrates a pleasant, positive and caring attitude.
  • Ability to focus on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent computer and typing skills.
