About The Position

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Parrish Medical Group and working in close relationship with the HIM Operations Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating all incoming and outgoing referrals for all PCPs and specialist within Parrish Medical Group. Responsibility includes completing all necessary insurance verifications, obtaining or verifying authorizations on file, completing or requesting forms, sending referrals to appropriate specialist(s), answering phone calls and closing the referral loop as per quality requirements in EMR. The position shall exemplify the desired Culture of Choice® and philosophies of Parrish Healthcare.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year to < 2 years related experience required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, review and track all incoming and outgoing referrals for Primary care and Specialists in the group.
  • Verify insurances, acquire necessary authorizations for incoming and outgoing referrals.
  • Send all necessary forms and records for outgoing referral.
  • Verify all necessary forms and records for incoming referrals.
  • Maintain outgoing referrals within network in order to prevent outmigration when possible.
  • Maintain and update patient records as needed. These records include information from other care providers, diagnostic reports and surgical reports.
  • Interact with patients, doctors and insurance companies to maintain records and close any open referrals.
  • Protect patient’s rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support as needed such as answering phones, managing schedules and checking out patients.
  • Close outgoing referrals by updating records as per quality requirements in EMR and working in close relationship with HIM Manager and EMR Analyst for completion of steps.
  • Communicate with providers and care team about referral progress and changes, by pulling weekly or monthly reports to track open and or outstanding referrals.
  • Works closely with all practice managers to ensure referrals are being completed within timeframe of policy and procedures.
  • Supports the continuity of care.
  • Documents, tracks the care, treatment, and services the patient has received and or is referred out to be seen for.
  • Ensures proper exchange of information occurs between clinical care sites.
  • Supports performance improvement activities and partakes in audits and or surveys.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
  • Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area
