Receive and decontaminate all items requiring processing, including but not limited to OR instrumentation/Case Carts, small equipment and facility and departmental needs. High Level Disinfection of non-sterilized items for use. Run machine test strips for instruments on cart wash and ultrasonic washers to show proper function of machine. Document results. Wrap, peel pack and place in rigid containers all instrumentation for sterilization. Sterilization of all peel packaging, rigid and wrapped instrumentation for use. Empty all autoclave (instrumentation) racks of processed instrumentation for designated storage. Sign off on indicator check sheet every A.M. to assure sterilization /HLD of all items before delivery. After sterilization, deliver processed items to appropriate areas (Storeroom/Outreach, floors). Collect dirty instrumentation/small equipment on nursing units for processing and return to unit. In addition – the central processing technician is responsible for replenishing medical equipment required on nursing units and refurbishing specialty carts. CPT must maintain current knowledge in the sterilization process.
