About The Position
The Central Processing Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and efficiency of hospital operations by ensuring that all medical equipment, instruments, and case carts are properly decontaminated and prepared for use. This position requires adherence to established procedures for decontamination, as well as strict compliance with hospital policies regarding safety and infection control. The technician will be responsible for thoroughly cleaning and inspecting all equipment returned from patient use, following the manufacturer's recommendations to ensure that all items are in optimal condition for future procedures. Additionally, the technician will prepare instrument trays for various medical procedures, ensuring that all necessary tools are available and sterile when needed. In this role, the technician must maintain a clean and safe working environment, which includes regular inspections of equipment and adherence to safety protocols. The position may require working outside of traditional hours, including potential emergency call-outs, and the ability to lift approximately 30 pounds. The technician will also need to be aware of the risks associated with hazardous materials, sharp objects, and infectious diseases, and must take appropriate precautions to mitigate these risks. Knowledge of basic office software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is also necessary for documentation and communication purposes. Furthermore, obtaining IAHCSMM certification within one year of employment is mandatory to ensure compliance with industry standards and practices.
