The Central Processing Tech II at Valley Medical Center plays a vital role in ensuring the proper sterilization and preparation of medical instruments and equipment. This position involves operating sterilizers, performing data entry, and managing patient care equipment, all while adhering to safety and quality control standards. The role requires effective communication and organizational skills to support the smooth functioning of the Central Processing department.

  • Operate steam and gas sterilizers.
  • Prepare items for the sterilization process.
  • Perform data entry on two computer systems.
  • Dispense and recover patient care equipment.
  • Prepare reusable trays and instruments for sterilization.
  • Prepare, sterilize, and transport instruments and equipment for Valley Medical Center.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks in conjunction with the Central Processing Tech Coordinator.
  • Schedule staff breaks and lunch periods for adequate coverage.
  • Assist in developing and communicating new procedures and training staff.
  • Identify areas of cost savings and increase efficiencies in the department.
  • Assist in developing monthly work schedules with the Central Processing Tech Coordinator.
  • Coordinate instrument repairs.
  • Conform to safety guidelines and policies regarding protective apparel.
  • Transport biohazard products safely as per departmental procedures.
  • Inspect instruments and reusable items for repairs.
  • Prepare products correctly for sterilization and perform control testing.
  • Process priority items according to policy guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with inter/intra departmental staff.
  • Respond to equipment alarms and customer inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Deliver requested orders promptly, especially STAT requests.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare charge tickets correctly.
  • Assemble outpatient supply requests as orders are received.
  • Provide service and information for customer inquiries.
  • Assist with modifications in supply systems and services as needed.
  • Provide biological monitoring on processed orders and instruments.
  • Accept training in surgical instrumentation relevant to the role.
  • Rotate assignments in various areas of Central Processing.
  • Knowledge of sterilizer operations.
  • Knowledge of quality control testing.
  • Current certification through IAHCSMM or ASHCSP or obtained within 18 months of hire unless hired before 2000.
  • Past history of good attendance to VMC standards.
  • Past history of satisfactory job performance that meets VMC standards.
  • Neat and clean with a well-groomed appearance.
  • Able to communicate effectively in a diverse population.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
