About The Position

The position involves installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing combined heat and power and chilled water systems and connected equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Responsibilities include performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance duties and routines, as well as routine and emergency maintenance on high temperature hot water, chilled water, and electrical distribution piping, valves, and controls throughout the NYU portfolio of properties. The role also requires performing housekeeping, painting, labeling, and other tasks on plant equipment and systems. The technician will complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently, either as part of a maintenance team or independently with minimal supervision. Advanced troubleshooting and diagnosis on plant equipment, systems, and controls is essential, along with correcting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation faults. The technician must understand how to troubleshoot equipment faults and identify root causes of plant issues, recommending repair strategies to return the plant to normal operating conditions. Effective communication via email, radio, and phone is necessary. The role also includes repairing and maintaining machinery and equipment according to diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, and manufacturers' specifications, using hand and power tools, as well as precision measuring or testing devices. Observing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and adjusting control valves, transmitters, PLCs, and various instrumentation and control devices to ensure proper operation and repair is also part of the job. The technician will assist in scoping, planning, and scheduling shutdowns and repairs, order supplies and replacement parts as required, and respond to emergencies to determine corrective actions using available resources.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ten years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of combined heat and power and chilled water systems, equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of maintenance routines, codes, standards, and plant procedures.
  • Soldering, minor welding, wire pulling, brazing, pipe threading, and conduit installation skills.
  • Specific operation and maintenance experience with mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of the safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and rigging equipment.
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 24', work safely on cherry pickers, and work in confined spaces or extreme environmental conditions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with computer applications such as email.

Benefits
