Central Plant Technician – JLL What this job involves: Join our facilities engineering team as a Central Plant Technician where you'll be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our Central Utility Plant (CUP). This hands-on role combines mechanical, electrical, and control system expertise to maintain continuous plant operations and ensure business continuity. You'll work under the direction of the Central Plant Lead or Engineering Manager, playing a critical role in maintaining system uptime, executing preventive maintenance, and ensuring all systems operate within design standards. This position offers excellent opportunities for technical growth and advancement into senior engineering roles. What your day-to-day will look like: Monitor and operate central plant equipment including chilled water plants, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, and VFDs to maintain system stability and reliability Perform routine plant rounds and inspections, recording operational data, responding to alarms, and identifying equipment abnormalities or potential issues Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and control systems following approved procedures and safety protocols Complete work orders accurately in CMMS (Corrigo), maintain plant logs, and document equipment history to support reliable operations Support predictive maintenance activities including vibration monitoring, temperature checks, and trend analysis for equipment optimization Collaborate with Central Plant Lead, Engineering staff, and vendors during maintenance activities, shift turnovers, and project support Follow all safety procedures including LOTO, confined space entry, hot work, and chemical handling in compliance with OSHA and site policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3-5+ years of experience in central plant, HVAC, mechanical systems, or facilities engineering operations
  • Understanding of HVAC and hydronic system fundamentals with basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Experience using Building Automation Systems (BAS) for monitoring and diagnostics
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, one-lines, and equipment schematics with strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in mechanical spaces, rooftops, and confined areas around rotating machinery and industrial equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school or associate degree in HVAC, mechanical systems, or related field
  • Experience working with chilled water plants, boilers, or large mechanical equipment
  • EPA Universal Certification, OSHA safety training, or boiler/plant operations certifications
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, or on-call schedules as required
