About The Position

The Central District Wildlife Technician (Wildlife Technician II) position at the Department of Fish and Game (DFG) involves assisting biologists and scientists in various tasks related to fisheries and wildlife management. Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic principles and techniques of fisheries and wildlife biology.
  • General working knowledge of all division programs.
  • Knowledge of hunting and fishing rules and regulations of the state.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical formulas to analyze data.
  • Basic understanding of routine operations of Fisheries and Wildlife Districts and Hatcheries.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment, boats, and motors, and use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to use a computer for data entry and document production.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Assist District Manager, Biologists, and Technician III in coordinating and performing district activities.
  • Maintain and enhance habitats, including field and shrubland maintenance and constructing nesting structures.
  • Conduct maintenance of Wildlife Management Areas, including parking area upkeep and trash pickup.
  • Assist in population monitoring, tagging, and banding of wildlife.
  • Collect and organize environmental and biological data, entering it into databases.
  • Transport and distribute fish and game for public recreational opportunities.
  • Prepare and disseminate public information and education materials regarding wildlife issues.
  • Handle animal complaints and provide technical assistance to the public.
  • Maintain and perform minor repairs on power equipment and tools used for data collection.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
