About The Position

The Center Activities Specialist is responsible for promoting and overseeing a variety of social, educational, and recreational activities and programs, particularly for senior citizens. This role involves recruiting volunteers, coordinating with community organizations, and ensuring the safety and maintenance of facilities. The specialist will also manage staff and volunteers, maintain records, and provide training and instruction as needed.

Requirements

  • A two-year combination of education and/or experience in developing or overseeing social, educational or recreational programs.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification is required within six months of appointment and must be maintained.
  • A valid driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes activities and programs, recruits volunteers and participants, and consults with individuals and groups to identify services and programs.
  • Develops, implements, and oversees a variety of social, educational, and recreational activities and programs.
  • Inspects assigned facility and equipment to identify deficiencies in safety, cleanliness or maintenance and corrects deficiencies.
  • Coordinates activities and programs with other divisions, departments, and community organizations.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Organizes, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of assigned staff and volunteers.
  • Prepares and maintains required records and reports on activities, programs, and participants.
  • Operates specialized equipment, such as a scanner, and reviews, downloads and prepares reports based on downloaded information.
  • Operates a personal computer using word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and related applications.
  • Responds to written and verbal inquiries relating to services and programs.
  • Provides instruction and training to subordinate employees and volunteers.
  • Performs first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures as required.
  • Communicates clear direction, manages for results, and leads organizational change.
  • Assigns responsibility, takes corrective action, demonstrates leadership in evaluating, developing, and motivating employees.
