About The Position

Under general supervision, performs daily work assignments for the Cemetery Division of the Parks and Recreation Department, in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.

Requirements

Sufficient education to perform essential duties and understand and follow oral and written instructions
Experience operating lawn care equipment and basic hand tools
Valid New Mexico Driver's License with a driving record acceptable to the City of Alamogordo
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Nice To Haves

One (1) year of landscaping experience.
Valid pesticide license for public applicators issued by the New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA).

Responsibilities

Mows, propagates, cultivates, and/or trims grass, trees, flowers, shrubs, and brush
Safely operates various light equipment; uses hand tools
Inspects equipment and facilities on a regular basis to ensure proper maintenance
Performs minor repairs on facilities and equipment
Operates tractor, mowers, backhoe, and other mechanical equipment as needed
Performs burial duties, including digging and filling graves and placing headstones
Sets up and tears down funeral equipment before and after funeral
Assists the public in locating graves
With proper certification, administers chemical applications
Safely operates a City vehicle
Contributes to a high-quality work culture through participation in training and mentoring to develop skills, including safety-related training and skills
Interacts professionally and provides excellent customer service to all levels of City staff and citizens to ensure high operational and service standards
Performs duties in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority
Must maintain required license(s)
Maintains the confidentiality of information obtained during the performance of duties
Performs such other duties as may be assigned
