About The Position

The Cement Finisher at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is responsible for screeding and finishing concrete surfaces, ensuring high-quality workmanship in various concrete-related tasks. This role involves performing structural repairs, preparing surfaces for coatings, and operating service vehicles for maintenance and installations. The position requires adherence to safety regulations and a commitment to professionalism and teamwork within the Facilities & Services department.

Requirements

• Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman cement finisher with four years of actual work experience at the trade.
• Possession of a valid State of Illinois driver's license at time of hire.
• Journey-level knowledge of cement finishing.
• Basic math skills.
• Proficiency in handling trowels and miscellaneous hand tools.
• Knowledge of materials used in repair and finishing of cement.
• Ability to follow directions.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with and understand customer needs and requirements.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, etc.
• Thorough knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and safe and proper use of tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Grinds and shot blasts concrete for repairs and/or prep for coatings.
• Screeds, floats, cuts joints, and finishes wet concrete to desired texture.
• Performs structural repairs, such as grouting columns and epoxy injecting cracked concrete.
• Establishes elevations, forms, and sets screeds to prepare for concrete pours.
• Drives and operates service vehicles used for Cement Finisher maintenance, installations, or repairs.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.
