About The Position

The Cellular Specialist position involves developing processes for the clinical and commercial manufacture of cell therapy products. The role requires collaboration with internal lab teams and vendor partners to ensure effective product line strategies and the delivery of the cell and gene therapy pipeline. The specialist will maintain knowledge of the external marketplace and customer relationships with key business and clinical stakeholders to support ongoing new business development efforts. A strong understanding of cellular laboratory processes and techniques is essential, along with the ability to maintain high skill levels in tissue and cellular processing and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or related scientific field, or equivalent work experience.
  • MLS(ASCP) or national equivalent certification required.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Current CLP licensure, or license eligible by LA State Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Working knowledge of cellular laboratory testing and processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AABB standards, CLIA and FDA regulations, OSHA requirements, and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
  • Proficiency in the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient/donor information.
  • Ability to work effectively under stressful situations.
  • Dependable, punctual, and possess effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a positive approach toward customers and staff.

  • MLS(ASCP)SBB or other specialized MLS degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all steps related to cellular processing including collection, transportation, sample submission, result review, mechanical isolation, enzymatic digestion, seeding and passing of cell lines, cell harvest, and cryopreservation.
  • Adhere to strict sterile technique practices and suggest appropriate process changes as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate, concurrent, and complete records of all tasks associated with cellular processing.
  • Manage inventory by ordering supplies, maintaining order records, investigating back ordered items, and monitoring expirations.
  • Ensure instrumentation validation, calibration, and operational quality control, including daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.
  • Ensure regular cleaning of laboratory areas, commensurate to isolation level.
  • Display ability to choose and implement appropriate use of PPE.
  • Coordinate and prepare characterization testing with Life's molecular testing laboratory and off-site testing when needed.
  • Interact with Dendreon collection team and Life's collection team for processing and/or distribution of product.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records and locations of frozen and cryopreserved products.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs related to cellular laboratory and upload into electronic document control.
  • Participate in Quality activities, including performing quality control testing and troubleshooting unexpected QC results.
  • Develop and implement training protocols and maintain all training records.
  • Maintain state licensure through LSBME by participating in required continuing education programs.

  • Complete other tasks and duties as assigned.
