About The Position

This position will provide cell sorting technical support for the Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) Core Laboratories Center (CLC) Flow Cytometry Core Facility in New York City.  Responsibilities include operation of florescence activated cell sorting (FACS) and analyzer instruments, maintenance of flow cytometry equipment, quality control procedures, sample and process tracking, assisting researchers on the use of equipment and software, and assisting in the training of new users.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a core facility or research laboratory.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with BD FACS Aria, Influx and Fusion instrument models is preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of aerosol containment and biosafety control procedures associated with flow sorting is preferred.
  • Experience in building successful relations with supervisors, fellow workers and customers, is preferred.
  • Experience writing laboratory SOPs and technical instructions is preferred.
  • Experience working with flow cytometry technologies, applications and analysis tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Core Manager, responsible for conducting complex cell sorting for the core facility's users.
  • Operates flow cytometry sorters and analyzers for full-service use and helps train investigators for unassisted use.
  • Performs rapid sorting of cells, bacteria, yeast and other small particles, based on multiple parameter characteristics, into highly pure populations.
  • Performs customer services, such as fielding questions on flow cytometry sample processing, data analysis, scheduling, and billing.
  • Maintains close communication with principal investigators during sorting phase of experiments.
  • Ensures protocols are clearly understood and sorting is carried out exactly as requested.
  • Contacts investigators with any questions or issues.
  • Processes sample submissions.
  • Maintains reagents and supply inventory.
  • Records quality assessment metrics for flow cytometry results.
  • Reports and documents deviations from standard operating protocols.
  • Schedules use of cell sorting and analyzer equipment to ensure maximum availability.
