About The Position

QuantumScape is on a mission to transform energy storage with solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. The company’s next-generation batteries are designed to enable greater energy density, faster charging and enhanced safety to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.   About the team: The battery systems development team is a tight-knit group of engineers working to improve module level reliability and design. We pride ourselves on being small and dynamic, able to make data-driven decisions on tight timelines and iterate rapidly to arrive at needed improvements. We emphasize collaboration with teams across the company to engineer a product ready for real world applications.   What we need: We are seeking an early to mid-career engineer excited about helping actualize real-world Li metal battery packs. You will use knowledge of battery test methods and metrics to validate and improve module designs. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering discipline with 2+ years of relevant work experience OR Master’s degree +1-year relevant work experience
  • Hands-on experience working with Li-ion or solid-state batteries and knowledge of electrical test metrics
  • Experience with mechanical design principles and software (e.g. Inventor, SolidWorks, CATIA)
  • Understanding of experimental design, statistical methods, and associated software (e.g. JMP, Python)
  • Excellent communication skills and background working with cross-functional teams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with small scale process design and rapid prototyping
  • Foundation in battery module design and integration

Responsibilities

  • Design experiments to test reliability of novel modules and pack architecture
  • Analyze electrical test data to inform module design improvements
  • Interface with cell build and reliability teams to stay up to date with learnings from across the company
  • Collaborate with business development team to develop cycling test protocols for industry applications
  • Aid in mechanical design and prototyping of modules
