The Harper College Community Music and Arts Center is seeking a part-time writing instructor to teach group classes for adults and children, starting in January 2026. Employment for this role depends on class enrollment and may include evening and weekend hours. The primary responsibilities of this position include teaching weekly non-credit classes and supporting community education programs. The instructor will collaborate with colleagues to enhance instructional quality and student engagement, while maintaining a consistent teaching schedule throughout the academic year. Duties include developing lesson plans, administering student assessments, and integrating technology into the teaching and learning process. The role also involves designing and delivering courses in multiple formats, including In-Person, Self-Paced, Online Live, and Hybrid modalities. Additionally, the instructor will participate in departmental and faculty meetings, training sessions, and contribute to program marketing and outreach initiatives, engaging with social media platforms to promote courses and enhance program visibility.

  • Ability to clearly explain concepts and techniques to students of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong dedication to teaching and supporting lifelong learning.
  • Excellent communication skills and responsiveness to emails.
  • Openness to new ideas and initiative.
  • Willingness to promote and market personal classes.
  • Experience teaching online and proficiency with virtual meeting applications.
  • Modern computer equipped with a microphone and camera for live online instruction.
  • Capability to record lectures on video and create course materials using Blackboard.
  • Competency with email, social media platforms, text messaging, screen sharing, and content sharing.
  • Ability to teach multiple disciplines.
