About The Position

Harper College Community Music and Arts Center seeks an Early Years Music Instructor to lead engaging group classes for children ages 0-7. This position starts in the Fall 2026 semester (contingent on enrollment) and involves evening/weekend hours plus attendance at student recitals and performances. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Work is primarily indoors and sedentary. Equipment and Tools Used: Utilizes standard office equipment to perform the duties of the job. Supervision: Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of the Community Music and Arts Center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in music education, early childhood music, or related field; formal training in early music pedagogy required.
  • Proven experience teaching group classes to young children (0-7 years).
  • Passion for diverse learners; bilingual/multilingual skills strongly preferred (e.g., Mandarin/Cantonese, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Korean, Japanese, etc.) to serve our multicultural community.
  • Excellent communication, positive attitude, and responsiveness to emails/inquiries from coordinators and families.
  • Commitment to lifelong musical development and high instructional standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to teach related instruments is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Teach interactive group music classes focused on early childhood development (ages 0-7), incorporating historical instruments, songs, and activities from early music traditions.
  • Develop age-appropriate lesson plans, assessments, and curricula that foster musicality, motor skills, language, and social growth.
  • Maintain a consistent teaching schedule and communicate proactively with parents/guardians.
  • Integrate technology (e.g., apps, recordings) to enhance instruction.
  • Collaborate with other instructors for mixed-age classes.
