About The Position

The CDS Trainee position at Paradise Valley Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare, involves conducting clinically based concurrent and retrospective reviews of inpatient medical records. The primary goal is to ensure clinical documentation accurately reflects quality-of-care outcomes and compliance with reimbursement regulations for acute care services. This role requires close collaboration with medical staff to facilitate appropriate clinical documentation of patient care. The trainee will also be responsible for reviewing documentation for inpatient admission criteria and performing initial and extended-stay concurrent reviews on selected admissions, documenting all findings. Paradise Valley Hospital is a 291-bed acute care hospital in National City, serving San Diego for over 100 years with various programs and services, including the San Diego Spine & Joint Center, a highly credentialed acute rehabilitation center, a fully equipped and modern cardiac catheterization lab, comprehensive inpatient and outpatient surgical services, 24-hour emergency services, and comprehensive behavioral health services on the hospital campus and Bayview campus in Chula Vista.

Requirements

  • Medical Graduate, PA, or Nursing Graduate
  • Minimum of six (6) months of clinical experience in an acute care setting in any capacity
  • Knowledge of care delivery documentation systems and related medical record documents
  • Knowledge of age-specific needs and the elements of disease processes and related procedures
  • Strong broad-based clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology / physiology of disease processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build effective partnering relationships with physicians, nurse staff and hospital management staff

  • Working knowledge of inpatient admission criteria
  • Ability to work independently in a time-oriented environment
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with the operation of basic office equipment
  • Assertive personality traits to facilitate ongoing physician communication
  • Working knowledge of Medicare reimbursement system and coding structures

Responsibilities
