About The Position

The Criminal Investigator III (EPU) position at the Colorado Department of Corrections is responsible for enforcing criminal law within the department, conducting investigations, and ensuring the security of CDOC dignitaries. This role involves personal protection, intelligence gathering, and collaboration with various agencies to maintain safety and security during official visits. The investigator will also analyze complaints, conduct thorough investigations, and provide training to others in the department.

Requirements

  • Professional investigative criminal case experience conducting drug, assault, or fraud investigations, including interviewing suspects, victims, and witnesses; collecting and processing evidence; writing criminal investigation reports; and testifying in hearings and trials.
  • A combination of related education and experience equal to six years in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a closely related field.
  • Possession of a valid/active Colorado Peace Officer Standards Training Certification (POST) at the time of application.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct personal protection to various CDOC dignitaries, including advance investigation of venues to be visited.
  • Assess the physical security of venue sites for vulnerabilities and hazard areas.
  • Conduct intelligence gathering and analysis to determine levels of risk related to interactions with selected individuals or locations.
  • Locate and assess primary, secondary, and tertiary routes for dignitaries' travel.
  • Provide safe and efficient mobile transport and in-transit security for CDOC dignitaries.
  • Analyze complaints, validate authenticity, and determine the presence of essential elements constituting a crime under Colorado statutes.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct independent investigations.
  • Act as a liaison to outside agencies for assistance and resources.
  • Write search warrants, arrest warrants, and affidavits, and prepare court orders for evidence collection.
  • Assist in special operation tasks, including surveillance and executing arrest and search warrants.
