About The Position

Are you an experienced CDL Driver that is ready to get off the road and stay home at nights? Use your experience to train the next generation of drivers! Sage Truck Driving School is looking for substitute instructors to teach for us! No teaching experience required! We will train you! Substitute Instructors operate on an on-call basis providing coverage during the absence of full and part-time instructors. Substitute instructors will demonstrate, teach and observe all lesson plans as would a full or part time instructor. The CDL substitute instructor is required to hold a Commercial Driver’s License and may be required to hold additional teaching licensure, if necessary.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL License
  • Minimum two (2) years of practical trucking related experience that demonstrates instructional competency.
  • A safe CDL A driving record as determined by the SAGE Safety Department.
  • Knowledge/Skill: Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of safe truck driving and all of the laws and regulations covering tractor-trailer interstate operations. Driving instructors must also be capable of demonstrating the SAGE curriculum subject matter for the students.
  • Additional truck driving and/or teaching licensure, if necessary.
  • Truck Driver Trainers/Instructors must meet the minimum qualifications for interstate tractor-trailer drivers in accordance with all requirements of the applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, including, but not limited to, meeting the physical and driver qualification standards of Part 391, as well as be able to pass as D.O.T. drug/alcohol screen

Responsibilities

  • Makes appropriate application of learning theory and employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved in a classroom or truck setting.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, uses the identified students’ needs to plan instruction, and maintains such records as required by corporate policy.
  • Takes all reasonable precautions while supervising students in a classroom, range or road setting to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, material, and facilities.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with staff and students concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of students.
  • Strives to implement educational student goals consistent with corporate policy by instruction and action.
  • Assists the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student conduct.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings as needed.
  • Strives to achieve professional growth through an ongoing program designed to supplement and enhance teacher ability.
  • Is familiar with school and corporate philosophy.
  • Is knowledgeable on state and federal laws on corporate policies affecting curriculum and/or instruction in the classroom.
  • Carries out any other job-related duties upon administrative request.
