About The Position

The CDL Residential ASL Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a fully automated side-loading (ASL) vehicle. In this role, you will work independently on public roadways to collect solid waste on specified residential routes. This position requires high-level precision driving, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to operate complex hydraulic systems from within the cab.

Requirements

  • Licensure: Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of commercial driving experience OR a certificate of completion from an accredited CDL school.
  • Screening: Ability to meet all criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to DOT and company standards.
  • Skills: Demonstrated ability to safely maneuver large vehicles in tight spaces, including backing distances of 120 feet or more using mirrors.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of truck components and basic maintenance requirements for safe operation.
  • Physical Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds repetitively and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Stamina: Ability to sit for approximately 75% of the shift and coordinate multiple limbs for vehicle and equipment controls.
  • Sensory Skills: Strong visual depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to distinguish colors. Ability to work in loud, vibrating environments.
  • Constant exposure to motor vehicle traffic and outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, humidity).
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, and vibration.
  • Work is primarily performed independently in the field with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Operation: Operate a fully automated side-loading truck, ancillary equipment, and hydraulic systems while navigating residential routes.
  • Safety & Inspections: Perform comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip inspections (DVIR). Complete daily truck reports and route sheets accurately.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all federal (FMCSA/DOT), state, and local regulations, as well as company safety policies regarding vehicle operation.
  • Maintenance Communication: Promptly report all mechanical issues or vehicle concerns to the shop mechanic and supervisor.
  • Service Quality: Maintain route quality standards as determined by management and work to improve routing efficiencies.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Identify and report unacceptable waste materials (flammables, hazardous liquids, etc.) to ensure safe disposal.
  • Vehicle Care: Maintain a clean vehicle interior and exterior to uphold company professional standards.
  • Professionalism: Attend all mandatory safety and branch meetings. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
