About The Position

Alter Trading Corporation is a 127-year-old industry leader in scrap metal processing, operating over 70 facilities throughout the Midwest and Southern regions. With a strong commitment to customer service and sustainability, we are a trusted source for both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Our corporate support center and marketing operations are based in St. Louis, MO, with trading offices in St. Louis and Hong Kong. We are seeking a qualified CDL Driver to support our Ottumwa operations. This role is essential to our recycling process, involving the pickup and delivery of steel-sided flatbed or roll-off containers and lugers. You’ll interact with customers, operate equipment, and help move scrap materials safely and efficiently. As a CDL Driver with us, you’re not just behind the wheel—you’re at the heart of the recycling process. You’ll play a key role in collecting and transporting recyclable metal materials from the customer sites to our processing yard, helping turn waste into opportunity. The ideal candidate will be safety conscious, customer-focused, and capable of working independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • Valid Class A CDL license.
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable driving experience.
  • Ability to lift 30–50 lbs. regularly and up to 100+ lbs. with assistance.
  • General knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous materials preferred.
  • Mechanical knowledge or experience with truck maintenance, parts or equipment operations.

Responsibilities

  • Completes 3-6 local runs daily, depending on customer needs.
  • Secure loads based on truck and container type.
  • Pick up and deliver containers to Alter facilities or customer sites.
  • Communicate customer details and delivery updates to dispatch and management.
  • Assist with equipment operation within the yard to load or move scrap material.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.
  • Adhere to all company safety protocols, including PPE and monthly safety meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
