As a Driver with BWI, you make the difference. Certainly, in this role, you will have typical duties you would expect as a Driver—you will transport and deliver goods. However, being a Driver for BWI is much more than driving a truck. As a Driver your role is critical in meeting our customers’ needs and is an essential piece in our customers’ relationship with BWI.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years old,
Have a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED),
Have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) ‘A’ & ‘B’, with Haz-Mat and Tanker Endorsement,
Have at least one-year CDL driving experience,
Have a clean MVR with less than 3 moving violations over three-year period,
Be able to pass DOT physical & DOT drug screen, and
Have no DWI / DUI convictions within the past 5 years.

Responsibilities

Drive tractor-trailer combinations and straight trucks to transport and deliver products.
Frequently interact with customers.
Follow safety and placarding procedures.
Perform trip, vehicle, and equipment inspections.
Maintain logs of working hours and vehicle service and repair.
Obtain delivery receipts/signatures and collect payment when required.
Check load documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Correctly maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions.
Properly secure cargo for transport.
Read invoices to determine assignment details.
Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, and damage to vehicles or property.
Read and interpret maps.
Couple and uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines, and manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
Collect delivery instructions, verifying instructions and routes.
Operate onboard computers, CB radios, and telephones.
Load and unload trucks and help others with loading and unloading. Operating loading-related equipment. (Some manual unloading may be required.)
Collaborate with other BWI employees (e.g., employee training and sharing information) to ensure customer satisfaction and teamwork.
Call office twice daily, preferably at or about 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and at the conclusion of route.
Turn in travel expenses with receipts at the conclusion of each trip.
Complete trip rand returns reports.
Maintain tractor/truck cleanliness.
