About The Position

The CDL Driver safely and efficiently operates an inter-city truck or combination unit between terminals, relay stations, and various delivery points. This role includes loading/unloading freight, verifying documentation, and maintaining compliance with all company, state, and federal regulations to ensure freight arrives safely and on time LOCATION: 1150 Antioch Pike Ste 250 Nashville, TN 37211 SHIFT: Monday – Friday (with some exceptions), home every night. Hours vary greatly with opportunities for overtime. COMPANY DESCRIPTION: Conklin Metal Industries is a distributor of all types of sheet metal, HVAC, and duct fabrication supplies. Our founding dates to 1874 and is now in its fourth generation as a family owned and operated business. We service the entire southeastern U.S. out of eighteen (18) warehouses. Our customers include sheet metal contractors, mechanical contractors, duct fabricators, residential/multi-family new construction contractors, and HVAC contractors who specialize in service and replacements. We are a one stop shop for every component used in the construction and installation of a commercial or residential HVAC Duct system. This includes the sheet metal for the rectangular or spiral/round duct, plus all the materials to connect, fasten, insulate, attenuate sound, control vibration, reinforce, direct air flow, provide access, and ultimately hang and seal. We also stock the widest array of sheet metal forming machinery in the southeast.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily pre-trip inspection on vehicle and required parts and accessories to determine safe operating conditions prior to departure.
  • Check shipping papers to determine nature of load and any special hazards, and, when feasible, to check load itself, and methods of securing it.
  • Operate vehicles in compliance with D.O.T., State Vehicle Code and Code of Regulations (Title 13), company rules and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Pick-up and deliver freight as required
  • Load, unload and move freight manually or with mechanical lifting equipment as required.
  • Hook and unhook trailers as required.
  • Collect freight charges (C.O.D.’s) and deliver to branch as instructed.
  • Match, count and verify freight with bills of landing and manifest. Note any exceptions in writing.
  • Secure freight with tarps, chains, webbing, or straps.
  • Perform other related work as required.
  • Always present a professional image and attitude to customers.
  • Possess and utilize area map book as applicable.
  • Perform general clean up (e.g. truck and trailer interior).
  • Report all accidents or injuries regarding driver or equipment to Branch Manager immediately.
  • Maintain Driver’s Record of Duty Status (driver’s log) in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.
  • Possesses general knowledge of operation and safety of pallet jacks, forklift, lift gates, etc.
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
