A DAY IN THE LIFE ON THE RAIL As a CDL Driver/Maintenance Operator, your work is essential to keeping the rail network safe and operational. Your day will start with the crew, reviewing the plan and comprehensive safety updates. You will be the primary operator responsible for driving and maintaining commercial vehicles, including flatbeds and other specialized trucks. You will operate heavy equipment (such as grapple loaders, excavators, or tampers) for rail replacement, track alignment, vegetation clearance, and material transport. This is a demanding, hands-on, outdoor heavy labor role performed in all weather conditions-sunshine, rain, heat, or cold. The position involves significant travel with the maintenance crew, often staying near project sites for extended periods (e.g., $10$ days on, $4$ days off).

Requirements

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Proven experience in heavy outdoor labor (e.g., construction, forestry, heavy equipment operation, farming).
  • Willingness to travel extensively with the maintenance team.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with railroad track maintenance or construction.
  • Experience operating a grapple operator or similar heavy equipment.
  • Someone who is reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to our high standard of safety.
