About The Position

The Driver Apprentice will work alongside a seasoned WM Driver and/or WM Driver Trainer to complete the required training to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle providing service to customers. This position is designed for individuals who have received their Commercial Driving Permit and will continue until all training requirements are met. The role involves operating a commercial refuse/recycling vehicle, performing pre- and post-trip inspections, and ensuring compliance with safety and legal regulations.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Successfully complete and pass pre-employment drug screen.
• Current state-issued standard Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Partner with a WM Driver and/or WM Driver Trainer to train on the proper operation of a commercial refuse/recycling vehicle.
• Operate the vehicle in accordance with WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle and document checks.
• Report all unsafe situations or service-related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
• Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs and meetings.
• Work closely with the Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies.
• Notify the Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, or property damage.
• Communicate customer requests to Dispatch or Operations Manager.
• Dump all receptacles and leave the customer's location clean.
• Assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
