Logistics & Work Environment: This full-time position at our Florence branch involves extended desk work, frequent computer use, occasional day-time travel, and labor-intensive, fast-paced warehouse conditions. Vision abilities are essential. The hours may vary Monday through Friday, between 6:30 am to 2:30pm A Day in the Life: The CDL Class B Driver is a key player in HHFB's Distribution Team, assisting in reclaiming and distributing food from various sources. They interact with food donors and are expected to maintain professionalism and exceptional customer service. Responsibilities include: Safely transports product pick-ups and deliveries to and from donors, program partners, and agencies. Assists with loading and unloading warehouse inventory, as needed. Builds and maintains rapport with donors and/or their employees to foster continued support and a professional working relationship; while in donor facilities, abides by donors' personnel and food safety policies. Completes accurate and timely documentation for shipping, receiving, unloading, and warehousing of product, as defined by HHFB policies and procedures. Completes accurate and timely equipment maintenance and safety reports and driver logs and reports equipment safety problems immediately. Through visual inspection, product handling and temperature monitoring, inspects and secures product donations to assure compliance with food safety and vehicle sanitation policies. Takes personal responsibility in following all policies, principles, and best practices for food and physical safety. Prepares truck route for daily business including refueling, maintenance inspections and cleaning activities. Conducts weekly cleaning and sanitizing of vehicle and equipment, ensuring inside of cab is clean, free of trash and contains necessary safety equipment and documentation, such as insurance and licensing. Maintains all current licenses, certifications, and medical cards in accordance/compliance with HHFB and DOT-mandated requirements. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid CDL Class A or B license.
  • Two or more years professional truck driving experience, preferably in a food or food-related environment.
  • Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply and divide units of weight accurately.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices including road/vehicle safety, quality record keeping, customer service, and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to safely operate all types of warehouse equipment, including, but not limited to, pallet jacks, forklifts, and dock levelers.
  • Proven ability to work steadily and independently with minimum supervision and to follow standardized written procedures.
  • Ability to work well with donors, staff, volunteers, and agency representatives, speaking with poise, voice control and confidence, imparting information in a clear and understanding manner.
