About The Position

BlueScope Recycling is a full-service, ferrous scrap metal recycler with processing facilities in Waterloo, IN, Delta, OH, and Mansfield, OH. BlueScope Recycling buys scrap from industrial generators, wholesale suppliers, and the general public, focusing on delivering the highest level of service. Summary: The primary role of the CDL Class A Driver II is to provide timely, efficient, safe, and courteous hauling service to suppliers and/or customers along an assigned route. This employee will be needed on a flexible schedule (some nights and weekends) and will be assigned to service a specific customer in Bowling Green, Ohio, and, when workload permits, will support additional routes as required.

Requirements

  • All qualifications for CDL Class A Driver I, plus:
  • 5+ years experience in handling more complex vehicle configurations and heavy machinery.
  • Ability to mentor and provide training to other drivers.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with customers and team members.
  • Problem-solving skills to address operational challenges effectively.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements specific to the scrap recycling industry.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the scrap metal industry preferred.
  • Experience with semi-end-dump, semi-roll-off, flatbed vans, and tin trailers.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a Class A commercial vehicle to transport scrap metal and materials within the recycling yard and to external locations if required.
  • Safely maneuver in tight spaces and varying terrain within the recycling yard.
  • Handle more complex vehicle configurations, such as trucks with trailers or specialized equipment used in scrap recycling operations.
  • Provide guidance and support to CDL Class A Driver I colleagues, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational procedures.
  • Assist in training new drivers on yard operations, safety practices, and equipment usage.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and suppliers during the loading and unloading process, ensuring customer satisfaction and efficient service.
  • Respond to emergencies, such as spills or equipment malfunctions, following established protocols to minimize disruptions and ensure safety.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations, environmental requirements, and company policies related to scrap metal handling and transportation.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing scrap recycling operations.
