About The Position

The CDL Bus Driver (Seasonal) position involves following the direction of the Fleet Specialist to transport school-age children to and from preplanned destinations. The role requires supervising groups of children, ensuring their individual needs are met with dignity and respect, and prioritizing their safety by adhering to YMCA policies and procedures. The driver is expected to model, practice, and embody the Y's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Requirements

  • Complete the YMCA Transportation Policy packet.
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Have CDL certification with passenger endorsement (if driving more than a 14-passenger vehicle).
  • Have a clean Oregon DMV driving record.
  • Be CPR and 1st Aid certified within 30 days of employment.
  • Pass a behind the wheel drive test, conducted by our Fleet Specialist.
  • Be physically capable of observing and listening for children at all times.
  • Be physically capable of lifting 40 pounds.
  • Be able to respond in a timely manner to a child and/or situation to prevent harm.
  • Be reliable, prompt, and practice excellent attendance.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Pass a rigorous criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the direction of the Fleet Specialist.
  • Carry out transportation of children to and from preplanned destinations.
  • Supervise groups of school age children.
  • Ensure all children’s individual needs are met with dignity and respect.
  • Ensure children’s safety by following YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Model, practice and carry out the Y core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
  • Understand and adhere to Child Abuse Prevention and YMCA Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Complete specified training on the topics of Health and Safety, Child Abuse and Reporting and Concussions.
  • Report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect as per YMCA guidelines.
  • Be patient and able to make sound judgments in a timely manner, on a daily basis, while interacting with children.
  • Supervise children while in transit and know where all children are, at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, parents, and children.
  • Follow documentation requirements for behaviors and injuries.
  • Attend required staff meetings.
  • Adhere to the dress code.
  • Adhere to check in and check out policies.
  • Maintain safety of YMCA vehicles at all times.
  • Maintain consistent communication with Fleet Specialist.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned and directed by management.
