POSITION SUMMARY : This is a delivery position responsible for operating a 26ft Straight Truck, delivering and unloading various products for our customers throughout the tri-state area. Overtime hours, working weekends and holidays, and starting at various evening start times are required in order to successfully meet our customers' needs. As an apprentice, during your first month of employment you will NOT be driving but instead, shadowing an experienced driver in order to become familiar with our routes, customers and company protocals. After your first month, you will have 2-3 months of hands-on training. Once you graduate the apprenticeship program, you will be deemed an experienced driver and will receive an increase in pay rate.

Requirements

  • 21+ years of age
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver License with a "clean" driving record
  • Abie to read, write, and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations
  • Possess and be able to present a valid non-expired interstate Medical Examiner's Certificate Card.
  • Pass pre-employment testing (Drug Screen, Background Check).
  • Have basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • MUST BE ABLE TO COMMUTE TO NEWARK, NJ FOR THE TRAINING PERIOD!
  • Operate vehicle in a variety of traffic and weather conditions.
  • Meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the Company.
  • Meet or exceed established cases per error goals.
  • Demonstrate strong customer relations and problem resolution skills.
  • Effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision.
  • Develop a good working knowledge of product and inventory control techniques and procedures.
  • Maintain ongoing inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations.
  • Frequently lift, push, or move product that weighs 1-60 pounds, up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequently reach up to 72 inches to stack and unstack pallets and hand cart.
  • Constantly bend and twist while loading and unloading product, and retrieving items from trailer.
  • At times, transport product down ramps, stairs, or docks, in all weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years' local food or beverage delivery experience
  • Pallet breakdown and hand cart delivery experience
  • Previous experience in foodservice industry

Responsibilities

  • Deliver product within assigned route schedule and time windows
  • Abide by Department of Transportation regulations
  • Unloading of merchandise by the use of hand trucks
  • Provide an excellent customer service experience by meeting customer needs during delivery
  • Ability to operate a commercial truck safely
