CDL-A Training Program POSITION DETAILS CDL Permit Required to Start: Must arrive at the academy with a valid Class A CLP. Comprehensive Training: 20-day (4-week) program covering all aspects of professional truck driving. Paid After Graduation: No pay during academy training. Earn $650/week during mentor training (4-6 weeks), then $800-$1,100/week average as a solo driver. Job Placement: Successful graduates have a direct path to a driving career with a leading carrier. Brooks Rd., Memphis, TN 38116 Hotel Accommodation: Best Western Plus Goodman Road Inn and Suites – 6910 Windchase Drive, Horn Lake, MS 38637 Students must be in the lobby no later than 07:15 AM to catch the shuttle to the Academy on time for class. Hotel rooms are double occupancy. If you are signing the carrierStudent Housing Agreement, you will share the hotel room with another student. Transportation: Before arrival, you will receive an Uber link by email to get from the bus station to the hotel. Class Schedule: Classes start Monday at 08:00 AM. Dress Code: Students are expected to wear closed toe, slip resistant rubber-soled shoes or boots. Please pack seasonally appropriate clothing. Shorts in good condition and of professional length are acceptable; gym shorts are not allowed. Duration of Academy: The Academy is scheduled for 20 business days (or 4 weeks). You will be scheduled to take the CDL test in the 5th week at the Academy. Students are off on weekends. Tuition: The tuition price of the Academy is $7,995. Please ask your recruiter about tuition financing and reimbursement programs. Lodging Cost: $1,250. Please inquire with your recruiter about financing through our Housing Agreement. Reimbursements: All receipts must be submitted during Orientation. Reimbursements can take up to 30 days. If you qualify, you will only be reimbursed up to the cost of a Greyhound ticket. Same-day reimbursements are not processed. Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) Requirements: No CLP is required to start class if you are from Tennessee or Mississippi; a regular Driver’s License is sufficient. If you are not from Tennessee or Mississippi, you must arrive at the Academy with your Class A Commercial Learners Permit with Airbrakes and Combinations. The permit cannot have a K restriction. Cost of Commercial Learners Permit (CLP): Tennessee: Learner’s Permit $14 - $6 application fee - $5 permit fee. CDL fee – Up to $75 Mississippi: $41 ($25 application fee, $16 Permit fee) CDL Fee - up to $80 Arkansas: Permit Packet $50 – CDL A $60 = $110 total. Arkansas residents must also become Certified Trucker Against Trafficking. CLP Requirements: If you have your CLP, it must be a Class A Commercial Learners Permit with Airbrakes and Combinations, without a K restriction. To avoid the K restriction, obtain your DOT physical before going to the DMV to take your permit test. The address on your Driver’s License and Commercial Learners Permit must match. Alabama students must have their hard copy CDL Class A permit; paper permits are not accepted. Drug and Alcohol Testing: Yes, all students will undergo a Urinalysis and Hair Test at the beginning of school. Random drug screens will also be conducted. Proof of Domicile Documents: Current utility bill (within the last 4 months, including telephone, electric, water, gas, cable, etc.) Current vehicle registration or title Mortgage papers or copy of lease/contract agreement with notarized signature Voter registration card Military papers Current filed tax return, W2s, and 1099s accepted if address is shown Required Paperwork at the Academy: Driver’s license the carrierapproved DOT long and short form physical (issued from a the carrierapproved clinic for a minimum of 6 months, with the CDL/CLP Applicant box marked YES) Social Security card and/or Birth Certificate for identification purposes High School Degree or GED prior to starting; if not available, an Ability To Benefit (ABT) test must be passed to begin the Academy.
