About The Position
This position oversees all aspects of the laboratory operations for the Biochem Laboratory, including managing staff, execution of effective staff training, ensuring staff competency and proficiency, adherence to safety and quality standards, budgeting, contract management and resource allocation. In addition, this position is responsible for the supervision of the laboratory staff and all personnel actions related to but not limited to, performance planning and annual/periodic reviews, position description (PD) revisions, recommendations for promotions and hiring, and corrective and disciplinary actions. This position promotes and oversees improvements, updates, new training initiatives and modifications to existing methods and procedures through method validation or method verification studies and reviews associated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Position identifies, promotes and oversees development of new testing methods and procedures for new equipment or technologies through method development, testing and validation and implements and monitors quality control processes and ensures compliance with relevant regulatory and ISO 17025:2017 accreditation requirements. The position performs annual management reviews of the entire laboratory Quality Management System. This position provides management quality reviews and final approval of data packages, method validation and verification packets, sample results, final laboratory analytical reports and research reports, completes grant applications and reports to ensure grant requirements are met. The position is also responsible for outreach and developing and arranging inter-agency agreements with federal, state, and local partners. The position also promotes the laboratory, Division, and Department through outreach efforts with the community, other state agencies, other states, federal programs, and national and international professional associations.
