About The Position

The Brand Inspector position at the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) is responsible for protecting the livestock industry from theft and ensuring legal ownership of cattle and horses during transactions. This role involves physically inspecting livestock, auditing ownership documents, and issuing inspection certificates. The inspector will also manage a state vehicle, schedule appointments, and collaborate with law enforcement on investigations related to livestock ownership.

Requirements

• Two years of full-time experience working with cattle or equivalent voluntary experience on a family ranch.
• Valid Colorado Driver's License.
• Ability to read brands on livestock.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Google Docs and Microsoft Office products.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with horses.
• Good math skills.
• Basic skills with computers and cell phones.

Responsibilities

• Physically brand inspect livestock and alternative livestock offered for sale, transport, or slaughter.
• Implement proper use, care, and maintenance of the state assigned vehicle and other division property.
• Schedule inspection appointments for efficient service delivery.
• Audit proof of ownership documents or legal contracts to certify legal title or possession of livestock.
• Issue inspection certificates and compile permanent records of inspection activities.
• Compute and reconcile inspection fees, minimum charges, and other related fees.
• Assist in the investigation of estray livestock to certify legal ownership and compliance with statutes.
• Make road stops to determine the origin and destination of livestock and examine ownership and health documents.
