About The Position

The Seneca County CCE Nutrition/Human Ecology Educator will meet the nutrition and human ecology information needs of county residents by identifying, developing and delivering relevant programming, serving as the Association’s principal provider of these programs in Seneca County. The N/HE Educator will have primary responsibility in working with County food pantries as part of a Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grant providing support to institute Food Service Guidelines and other initiatives. The N/HE Educator will present public nutrition and cooking classes; food preservation workshops; nutrition education at farmers markets, festivals, and other community events; and promote the consumption of local foods. The educator will serve as the Association’s representative on local nutrition and human services related boards and committees. The educator will produce social media nutrition/HE posts and press releases as well as assist in the development and delivery of nutrition/HE promotion activities for community residents. The educator will identify and implement relevant Human Ecology programs (i.e. Parenting) that may meet community needs. The educator will collaborate with the Farm to School Coordinator and 4-H Issue Leader to assist with the delivery of F2S, Dairy in the Classroom lessons, and other needs as they arise. There will also be involvement in community garden activities and community events to promote local food consumption.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree (Bachelor’s Degree plus 4 years transferrable relevant evidence-based research experience may substitute.)
  • Two years’ practical experience working within a nutrition-related, culinary, agriculture, teaching, human services, or home-economic position.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.
  • Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and tactfully through verbal, written and electronic methods.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work independently and as part of a team with internal and external partners at multiple levels within organizations and across communities.
  • Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate informal education programs for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a wide range of youth and adult learners from various demographics utilizing a variety of educational methods and techniques
  • Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with researching, identifying, and selecting existing resources for the nutrition and Human Ecology programs.
  • Utilize subject matter knowledge in nutrition and human ecology to assist with creating innovative programs to address barriers including engaging diverse partners and collaborators.
  • Assist with adapting curriculum materials to create lesson plans that meet local community and individual needs considering diverse audiences.
  • Create or adapt program materials to address participant needs.
  • Assist in making programmatic changes based on program evaluation outcomes to meet the need of diverse program participants.
  • Maintain working relationships with community members, Cornell University, and other interested groups to develop programs which express the demographics of the community.
  • Apply existing subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans and content to deliver high quality educational programs.
  • Work with county food pantries’ staff to implement Food Service Guidelines and other initiatives.
  • Teach the existing nutrition and Human Ecology educational programs as defined, and innovative educational programs with discretion and input from supervisor and colleagues.
  • Foster acceptance of programs, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences through frequent contact with program participants, community members, and volunteers.
  • Represent CCE before the public by establishing and developing working relationships with diverse participants, partners, community organizations, and other key stakeholders for purposes of program delivery.
  • Serve as subject matter resource for nutrition and Human Ecology inquiries
  • Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning to deliver programs.
  • Interact with program participants and deliver community-based workshops and activities to meet the needs of Seneca County residents including cooking classes, food panty education, food preservation workshops, basic nutrition education at Farmers Markets, and others as determined by program area team.
  • Assist with ensuring program delivery is within scope of statewide Plan of Work.
  • Implement program evaluation as designed.
  • Interact with program participants, Advisory Committee, and community agencies to gather informal program evaluation information.
  • Implement program evaluation with program participants and community agencies.
  • Assist with analyzing and interpreting evaluation data and make recommendations for program improvement.
  • Communicate evaluation results and findings.
  • Assist with maintaining connection with Cornell University faculty and program units for program evaluation guidance.
  • Assist with interpreting Association program direction, with the assistance of Supervisor and Advisory Committee, to plan educational programs.
  • Assist with planning the delivery of established educational Nutrition/Human Ecology program goals program goals.
  • Assist with planning effective strategic external and internal communication efforts.
  • Assist Supervisor in the design of a system of ongoing involvement of an advisory committee and other stakeholders who represent and communicate the demographics of the community.
  • Assist Supervisor in planning for program expenses, communications, and strategic marketing.
  • Assist is solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise in the program, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Assist with identifying activities and resources needed to carry out program priorities and goals in consultation and collaboration with supervisor, program committees, staff, Cornell faculty, agency partners, and other community constituents.
  • Assist in monitoring program financial status to ensure compliance with funding requirements, grant specifications, and adherence to Association strategies/Plan of Work.
  • May give guidance to volunteers and staff, including those performing similar work.
  • Assist with coordinating, compiling, and organizing existing program resources and program materials.
  • Collect evaluation data from program participants.
  • Maintain records of class participants, complete reports, and accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required.
  • Maintain communication with constituents and the community through a variety of methods such as newsletters, e-mails, electronic technology, internet, social media, website postings and content.
  • Assist Supervisor in coordinating program implementation activities and planning efforts.
  • Complete and submit program reports and financial documentation to meet funding agency requirements.
  • Assist with preparation and submitting grants/contracts for new or existing funding.
  • Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
  • Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected.
  • Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.
  • This position may require the transport of self and/or program materials/resources in performing position responsibilities.
  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
