About The Position

The Healthy Schenectady Families Supervisor supports improved family health and parenting practices among eligible families in Schenectady County. This role contributes to program planning and management while providing strength-based supervision to assigned staff. As part of the Healthy Families New York and Healthy Schenectady Families Programs, the Supervisor collaborates with educators and fellow supervisors to promote the well-being of parents, children, and families through evidence-based health education and parenting curricula delivered via home visits and staff oversight. The position also ensures positive, persistent, and individualized outreach to maintain family engagement and support improved outcomes for children, parents, and the community.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree. Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years transferrable relevant experience may substitute for a master’s degree.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Ability to meet the frequent travel requirements associated with the position.
  • A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, and occasional overnight travel.
  • Ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate evidence-based education to participants.
  • Ability to effectively manage and supervise staff.
  • Technology Skills - Moderate level skills with Microsoft Office suite, database and internet software.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with staff, community leaders, program participants, and others.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with program development efforts including by participating in monthly Home Visiting Partnership workgroup meetings and quarterly Community Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Assist in maintaining direct linkage with funders and other partners for program development guidance.
  • Assist in making programmatic changes based on program evaluation outcomes.
  • Deliver educational programs to 5–10 families using evidence-based curricula and materials.
  • Observe parent–child interactions during home visits and provide positive, program-aligned feedback.
  • Assist the Supervisor in developing and implementing Family Goal Plans and meeting required education delivery targets.
  • Conduct weekly home visits that taper until the child enters school or Head Start, ensuring alignment with the Healthy Families NY Plan of Work.
  • Use motivational interviewing and provide individualized education and goal planning to support improved birth outcomes, timely preventive care and immunizations, breastfeeding, positive parenting, early literacy, and school-readiness behaviors.
  • Apply skills in assessing parent–child interactions and child development.
  • Provide educational outreach through social/print media, group facilitation, committees, and community meetings.
  • Maintain supportive, professional relationships and communicate effectively on health, wellness, and domestic-violence prevention.
  • Encourage families to establish a primary care provider and understand the importance of preventive care.
  • Assess family functioning and connect families to Extension programs and community resources (e.g., WIC, SNAP-Ed, EFNEP, Head Start).
  • Help evaluate the program and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Supervise program staff including hiring, performance, development, and team relations per Association policies.
  • Help ensure positive, team-based employee relations.
  • Monitor and schedule staff time to ensure program needs are met.
  • Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts.
  • May assist supervisor in planning programs, budgets, staffing, and communications and marketing efforts.
  • Train and onboard new staff.
  • Maintain participant records and required reports.
  • Complete all program and funder documentation.
  • Coordinate weekly schedules with supervisor.
  • Support public awareness and reporting efforts.
  • Conduct outreach and connect families to community resources.
  • Communicate participant needs to program partners.
  • Build partnerships with community agencies.
  • Ensure participant confidentiality.
  • Attend meetings, manage expenses, and support program operations.
  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
  • Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Schenectady County policies, procedures and Cornell Cooperative Extension Skills for Success.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely and accurate manner.
