About The Position

To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district’s curriculum and extracurricular program. The successful candidate must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 90 days of their hire date. Employment is contingent upon meeting this requirement to ensure compliance with job duties that involve operating commercial vehicles.

Requirements

  • Must be physically able to operate a school bus.
  • Requires the ability to read a variety of policy and procedures manuals, maps, driver handbooks, regulations, etc.
  • Requires the ability to prepare various logs and reports accurately.
  • Requires the ability to speak with and before others with clarity, voice control and confidence.
  • Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form, and to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
  • Requires the ability to make routine independent judgments in absence of supervision and to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
  • Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.
  • Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of varying educational backgrounds.
  • Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, and to determine time.
  • Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.
  • Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in operating motor vehicles.
  • Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Must be adaptable to performing in uncomfortable physical conditions and under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
  • Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
  • Requires a high school diploma supplemented by a good driving record and required training, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must possess valid state class "B" CDL driver's license with appropriate endorsements; may require specialized training for transporting handicapped passengers.
  • A minimum of 60 college credit hours from an accredited college or university, an associate’s degree, or successful completion of ParaPathways testing.
  • A minimum of two years of consistent training and experience working with children in an education- focused setting.
  • This combination of education and experience must provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor students at assigned business sites.
  • Drive and monitor buses for CBT and field trips.
  • Maintain a comprehensive notebook, including: CBT schedule Current business site contracts Student permission slips for CBT Student emergency information sheets Mileage logs Weekly logs
  • Maintain and weekly update CBT Record Sheets.
  • Email daily CBT attendance, listing all students by school and marking their presence or absence, and print a copy for filing.
  • Complete weekly student evaluation forms.
  • Report extreme behavior problems or incidents to the CBT Coordinator immediately.
  • Submit written statements regarding any bus or business problems to the CBT Coordinator.
  • Maintain monthly trip records for the Special Education Department for mileage reporting.
  • Assist OC teachers with scheduling field trips as requested.
  • Attend weekly CBT staff meetings.
  • Obtain and maintain an updated Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Supervise student adherence to the dress code for CBT.
  • Assist special education teachers with clerical duties as requested.
  • Monitor halls, building exterior, and bus areas.
  • Obeys all school and district rules and regulations.
  • Perform other responsibilities as requested by the CBT Coordinator and Advantage Academy Director.
