About The Position

This Assistant Director position serves as the second tier executive, managerial, and administrative position to the Deputy Director and Director of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Assistant Director, whose qualification shall be the same as those of an Agent, shall serve as an Agent and shall be POST certified. The position exists to provide coordination, review, and daily management of operational activities associated with the investigation of complex criminal violations and to implement the policies and procedures of the Bureau. The Assistant Director will have management responsibility for various sections and units of the CBI, including Major Crimes, Statewide Crime Scene Unit, Narcotics, Fugitives/Human Trafficking, Cyber Crimes, Illegal Firearms, and Organized Crimes, among others.

Requirements

  • Must be a Colorado resident at the time of application.
  • POST certification is required at the time of application.
  • Eleven (11) years of professional law enforcement experience with a law enforcement agency that included having a full time Investigative/Detective unit, two (2) of which must have been at the level of a staff authority, unit supervisor, or equivalent and one (1) of which included direct supervision of an investigative/detective unit or as Colorado Bureau of Investigation Agent in Charge.
  • A combination of related education and/or professional major crimes investigative experience with a law enforcement agency having a full time Investigations/Detective Unit equal to eleven (11) years, two (2) years of which must have been at the level of a staff authority, unit supervisor, or equivalent and one (1) year of which included direct supervision of an investigative/detective unit or level as a Colorado Bureau of Investigation Agent in Charge.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of advanced law enforcement leadership training, including coursework from the FBI LEEDA Trilogy, Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, the FBI National Academy, and equivalents.
  • Experience in governmental budget responsibility, including State fiscal and procurement rules.
  • Experience in State legislative processes.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and oversees the management of the criminal investigative and technical aspects of field investigations throughout Colorado.
  • Provides supervision and guidance for the Agents In Charge to ensure CBI is performing its statutory requirements.
  • Has management oversight of their respective region's operational and personal services budgets and/or special statewide investigative budgets.
  • Prepares fiscal impact statements, decision items, and special reports related to the operation of the Units.
  • Ensures the goals and objectives established within the Strategic Plan as they relate to the Investigation Section are met.
  • Assists and makes recommendations on planning, managing and administering the functional operations of the CBI Denver, facilities and satellite offices.
