About The Position

The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to students in grades TK-12 in California. We use K12, inc. as our curriculum provider for the basis of instruction and teachers provide live instruction via the Engageli platform. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to log into the online school daily, complete coursework, and attend instructional sessions. Under the direction of the Director of Intervention and Special Programs and ELD Coordinator, and in cooperation with credentialed ELD Specialists, this position performs duties necessary to assist in providing the necessary support to ensure the success of active English Language Learners and students who have been Reclassified as Fluent English Proficient (RFEP) within the state-required four-year monitoring period. This position is paid at an hourly rate.

Requirements

  • Have at least one of the following: Have an associate’s or higher degree, or Have a passing score on the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST)
  • Demonstrates understanding, patience, and receptive attitude towards students of various age groups, temperaments and abilities (particularly those exhibiting specialized needs)
  • Exhibit ability to handle confidential information and materials
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators
  • Reside in the state of California
  • Ability to support and guide adults, as well as students
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organization and time-management skills
  • Flexible schedule
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook, PowerPoint and experience using them in a professional capacity

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Welcome and Orientation Meetings for new English Learner students as they enroll
  • Download assessment reports from Pear Assessment and California’s Test Operations Management System (TOMS) to support differentiated groupings and instructional support
  • Set up and manage student accounts within ELD supplemental/intervention programs, document engagement minutes in the program(s), and run program reports for ELD Specialists to drive intervention content and delivery
  • Upload completed compliancy documentation into the school’s Student Information System (SIS) for active English learners
  • Prepare surveys and forms to be filed in student records
  • Send out and collect eligibility and monitoring surveys
  • Support student learning in ELD classes as a whole group
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce the learning of materials and/or skills introduced and outlined by teaching staff
  • Provide support for students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in educational activities
  • Attend necessary training sessions
  • Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback
  • Model a personal code of ethics aligned with CAVA’s policies
  • Use directions from the Intervention and Special Programs administrative team to carry out duties
  • Maintain high expectations for all students and a deep belief that all students can learn
  • Other duties as assigned
