The CAUV/Homestead department is responsible for CAUV and Homestead Exemption. In facilitating these services, the department is to provide optimal customer service at all times. The Current Agricultural Use Valuation (CAUV) program is an incentive offered to property owners of farmland in the state of Ohio. Under the Ohio Revised Code, owners of land that is devoted exclusively to agricultural use can apply to be taxed based on the current agricultural use instead of its developed potential. The taxable value of CAUV land is based on the agricultural use value instead of the market value. The Homestead Exemption is a reduction in Real Estate taxes for those who qualify under the Ohio Revised Code Section 4503.065. This is a credit on property tax bills which allows qualifying homeowners to exempt $25,000 of the market value of their home from property taxes. 100% VA Certified Military Veterans may also qualify for Homestead. This exemption allows qualifying Veteran homeowners to exempt $50,000 of the market value of their home from property taxes.
