About The Position

The Cardiac Catheterization Lab Registered Nurse (Cath Lab RN) is responsible for providing patient care and assistance during cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures. This role involves pre-procedural, intra-procedural, and post-procedural nursing care, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes. The Cath Lab RN must possess specialized knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and procedures, as well as the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (ADN/BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of [State].
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a critical care or cardiac care setting.
  • Strong clinical skills in cardiovascular nursing and patient assessment.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with cath lab equipment and electronic health records (EHR).

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Cardiac Vascular Nurse (CCRN) preferred.
  • Previous experience in a cardiac catheterization lab preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Assessment and Preparation:
  • Conduct pre-procedural assessments, including reviewing patient history and performing physical exams.
  • Educate patients and their families about the procedure, addressing any concerns and answering questions.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, including starting IVs and administering medications as ordered.
  • Intra-Procedure Care:
  • Assist the cardiologist during cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures.
  • Monitor patient vital signs, ECG, and hemodynamic parameters throughout the procedure.
  • Administer medications and IV contrast agents as required.
  • Ensure the maintenance of a sterile field and adherence to aseptic techniques.
  • Post-Procedure Care:
  • Provide post-procedural monitoring and care, including assessing for complications.
  • Educate patients on post-procedure care and follow-up instructions.
  • Document all aspects of care accurately in the patient’s medical record.
  • Emergency Response:
  • Respond promptly to emergencies during procedures, including administering advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) if necessary.
  • Participate in code blue and other emergency protocols as required.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work collaboratively with the cath lab team, including physicians, technicians, and other nurses.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives.
